On August 12, 2022, author Salman Rushdie was violently attacked by a man wielding a knife, gravely injuring Mr. Rushdie. What is the history behind this attack? Salman Rushdie wrote a book in 1988 titled “The Satanic Verses.” The following year, the supreme leader of Iran, the Ayatollah Khomeini, issued a ‘fatwa’ – a religious ruling or edict, calling for Muslims worldwide to kill Rushdie because the book insulted the prophet Muhammad and the Koran.
