Law? – What Law?

Jesus said in Matthew 5 that He did not come to abolish the Law and Prophets, but to fulfill them. He even says that not one letter of the Law will disappear until everything is accomplished. The Jews have found 613 laws described in the Hebrew Scriptures, the very laws Jesus refers to. Then, as Christians, are we bound to all those same laws? If not, which ones apply to us? Why do we recognize the command “do not murder,” yet we ignore the law to abstain from eating shrimp? Do we know it is a sin to make and worship an idol, but we think it’s OK to worship on Sunday?
We will study this passage and these questions and begin to understand what Jesus’ work has done for us.
