Asleep in Christ
March 28, 2010
For
centuries before Christ, the Hebrew writers asked the question, “What happens
when we die?” The hope for something
beyond death is echoed in Job’s question, “If a man dies, will he live again?” Several times in the Hebrew Scriptures, the
writers point to the possibility of a resurrection of the dead. But not until Isaiah speaks of a “sleeping
multitude awaking to everlasting life” does the hint occur of what is to come
in Jesus Christ. Jesus tasted death so that those who believe in Him won’t have
to.
